Inscribed ‘Rather too free’ (lower middle), stamped with a Collector’s mark (W WEST….) lower middle. With a fragment of a much older label on the reverse. Inscribed ‘Edward Landseer / celebre Peintre animalier Anglais … de sa vente apres dece ….’ (famous English painter of animals acquired from the sale after his death)

8.7/8 x 12 in. (22.5 x 30.2 cm.)

Provenance: From an old French collection, Ader Nordmann, Paris, Dessins, 8th November 2019

The paper is creased and torn with foxing and some oxidisation. There are water stains and grease spots. The picture is loosely adhered to a greeny / grey mount with extensive washlines and inscribed nameplate within the washlines. Behind glass, in a giltwood frame with black inner section, chips and abrasions.

This was fully catalogued at Ader Nordmann but it is not signed and does not have a certificate of authenticity.
